ATHENS, Ga. — U.S. Corn production for grain is forecast at 14.5 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast but upĀ 7 percent from 2019. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 175.8 bushels per harvested acre, down 2.6 bushels from the previous forecast but up 8.3 bushels from last year. Soybean production for beans is forecast at 4.17 billion bushels, down 2 percent from the previous forecast but up 17 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 50.7 bushels per harvested acre, down 1.2 bushels from the previous forecast but up 3.3 bushels from 2019. All cotton production is forecast at 17.1 million 480-pound bales, up less than 1 percent from the previous forecast but down 14 percent from 2019.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the November Crop Production report
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 54.0 million bushels, unchanged from last month but up 20 percent from 2019. Cotton production is forecast at 825,000 bales, down 7 percent from last month and down 20 percent from last year. With yield forecast at a record high 4,000 pounds per acre, peanut production is forecast at 728 million pounds, up 3 percent from last month and up 39 percent from 2019. Soybean production is forecast at 10.5 million bushels, down 7 percent from last month but up 12 percent from 2019.
Florida: After experiencing high winds and heavy rains from Hurricanes Sally and Zeta in the last several weeks, cotton production is forecast at 155,000 bales, down 9 percent from last month and down 24 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 611 million pounds, down 8 percent from last month but up 4 percent from 2019. Potato production is forecast at 5.45 million cwt, down 22 percent from 2019. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production is forecast at 18.1 million tons, unchanged from last month but up 3 percent from last year.
Georgia: With yield forecast at a record high 182 bushels per acre, corn for grain production is forecast at 69.2 million bushels, unchanged from last month but up 24 percent from last year. Cotton production is forecast at 2.40 million bales, unchanged from last month but down 12 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 3.60 billion pounds, unchanged from last month but up 31 percent from 2019, primarily due to an increase in planted acreage this year. With yield forecast at a record high 43 bushels per acre, soybean production is forecast at 4.00 million bushels, up 10 percent from last month and up 60 percent from 2019.
South Carolina: With yield forecast at a record high 136 bushels per acre, corn for grain production is forecast at 50.3 million bushels, unchanged from last month but up 36 percent from last year. Cotton production is forecast at 325,000 bales, up 5 percent from last month but down 35 percent from 2019, primarily due to a decrease in planted acres this year. Peanut production is forecast at 312 million pounds, unchanged from last month but up 32 percent from 2019. Soybean production is forecast at 10.6 million bushels, up 13 percent from last month and up 30 percent from last year.
