ATHENS, Ga. — Corn production for grain in the United States is forecast at 15.1 billion bushels, up less than 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 7 percent from 2020. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 177.0 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.5 bushel from the previous forecast and up 5.6 bushels from last year. Soybean production for beans is forecast at 4.42 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast but up 5 percent from last year. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 51.2 bushels per harvested acre, down 0.3 bushel from the previous forecast but up 0.2 bushel from 2020. All cotton production is forecast at 18.2 million 480-pound bales, up 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 25 percent from 2020.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the November Crop Production report:
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 55.1 million bushels, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 9 percent from 2020. Cotton production is forecast at 755,000 bales, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 3 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 619 million pounds, down 6 percent from the previous forecast and down 1 percent from 2020. Soybean production is forecast at 13.7 million bushels, up 2 percent from the previous forecast and up 22 percent from 2020.
Florida: Cotton production is forecast at 130,000 bales, down 10 percent from the previous forecast but up 26 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 560 million pounds, down 5 percent from the previous forecast and down 1 percent from 2020. Potato production is forecast at 5.37 million cwt, up 1 percent from 2020. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production is forecast at 17.3 million tons, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 8 percent from last year.
Georgia: With yield forecast at a record high 180 bushels per acre, corn for grain production is forecast at 79.2 million bushels, up 2 percent from the previous forecast and up 13 percent from last year. Cotton production is forecast at 2.30 million bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast and up 6 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 3.30 billion pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 1 percent from 2020. With yield forecast at a record high 46.0 bushels per acre, soybean production is forecast at 5.98 million bushels, up 7 percent from the previous forecast and up 54 percent from 2020.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production is forecast at 52.3 million bushels, down 1 percent from the previous forecast but up 7 percent from 2020. Cotton production is forecast at 395,000 bales, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 32 percent from last year. With yield forecast at a record high 4,100 pounds per acre, peanut production is forecast at 271 million pounds, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 9 percent from 2020. Soybean production is forecast at 13.3 million bushels, up 9 percent from the previous forecast and up 29 percent from last year.
