ATHENS, Ga. — This report contains the results from the April 2020 Farm Labor Survey collected during the last two weeks of April. Respondents were asked the number of hired workers, hours worked and wages for the January and April 2020 reference weeks. Our thanks to all who responded to this survey.
There were 30,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina) during
the reference week of April 12-18, 2020. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average wage rate of $11.79 per hour.
The number of hours worked averaged 38.4 for hired workers during the reference week, down 0.1 hours from the reference
week in April 2019.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 38,000 for the April 12-18, 2020 reference week. They were
paid an average wage rate of $12.52, up from $12.08 from April 2019. The number of hours worked an average of 40.7
hours during the April 2020 reference week.
During the reference week of January 12-18, 2020, there were 23,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average wage rate of $11.99 per hour during the January 2020 reference week. The number of hours worked averaged 37.3 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 38.5 hours in January 2019.
There were 39,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the January 2020 reference week. Farm operators paid
their hired workers an average wage rate of $12.46 per hour, up from $12.06 from January 2019. The number of hours worked averaged 40.9 for hired workers during the reference week.
