ATHENS, Ga. — There were 26,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina) during the reference week of October 6-12, 2019, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Farm Labor Report. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average wage rate of $12.31 per hour. The number of hours worked averaged 40.3 for hired workers during the reference week, up 5 percent from the reference week in October 2018.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 31,000 for the October 6-12, 2019 reference week. They were paid an average wage rate of $13.27 and worked an average of 41.6 hours during the October 2019 reference week.
During the reference week of July 7-13, 2019, there were 27,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average wage rate of $12.06 per hour during the July 2019 reference week. The number of hours worked averaged 40.4 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 39.8 hours in July 2018.
There were 28,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the July 2019 reference week. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average wage rate of $13.13 per hour, up 5 percent from July 2018. The number of hours worked averaged 41.0 for hired workers during the reference week.
