ATHENS, Ga. — There were 26,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina) during the reference week of October 10-16, 2021. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.40 per hour. The number of gross hours worked averaged 40.8 for hired workers during the reference week, up 1.7 hours from the reference week in October 2020.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 28,000 for the October 10-16, 2021 reference week. Hired workers were paid an average gross wage rate of $13.30, down from $13.82 in October 2020. The number of gross hours worked was an average of 44.0 hours during the October 2021 reference week.
During the reference week of July 11-17, 2021, there were 32,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.34 per hour during the July 2021 reference week. The number of gross hours worked averaged 40.8 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 39.8 hours in July 2020.
There were 25,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the July 2021 reference week. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $13.58 per hour, down from $13.79 in July 2020. The number of gross hours worked averaged 42.0 for hired workers during the reference week.
