ATHENS, Ga. — There were 31,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina) during the reference week of April 11-17, 2021. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.63 per hour. The number of gross hours worked averaged 39.6 for hired workers during the reference week, up 1.2 hours from the reference week in April 2020.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 28,000 for the April 11-17, 2021 reference week. Hired workers were paid an average gross wage rate of $13.37, up from $12.52 in April 2020. The number of gross hours worked was an average of 40.4 hours during the April 2021 reference week.
During the reference week of January 10-16, 2021, there were 23,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.89 per hour during the January 2021 reference week. The number of gross hours worked averaged 38.6 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 37.3 hours in January 2020.
There were 28,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the January 2021 reference week. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.98 per hour, up from $12.46 in January 2020. The number of gross hours worked averaged 42.0 for hired workers during the reference week.
