ATHENS, Ga. — There were 31,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina) during the reference week of October 11-17, 2020. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.73 per hour. The number of gross hours worked averaged 39.1 for hired workers during the reference week, down 1.2 hours from the reference week in October 2019.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 35,000 for the October 11-17, 2020 reference week. Hired workers were paid an average gross wage rate of $13.82, up from $13.27 from October 2019. The number of gross hours worked was an average of 42.5 hours during the October 2020 reference week.
During the reference week of July 12-18, 2020, there were 32,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $12.69 per hour during the July 2020 reference week. The number of gross hours worked averaged 39.8 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 40.4 hours in July 2019.
There were 33,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the July 2020 reference week. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $13.79 per hour, up from $13.13 from July 2019. The number of gross hours worked averaged 43.2 for hired workers during the reference week.
