ATHENS, Ga. — There were 32,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region (Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina) during the reference week of April 9-15, 2023. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $14.69 per hour. The number of gross hours worked averaged 42.1 for hired workers during the reference week, up 3.6 hours from the reference week in April 2022.
In Florida, workers hired directly by farm operators numbered 27,000 for the April 9-15, 2023 reference week. Hired workers were paid an average gross wage rate of $15.36, up from $14.61 in April 2022. The number of gross hours worked was an average of 41.6 hours during the April 2023 reference week.
During the reference week of January 8-14, 2023, there were 24,000 workers hired directly by farms in the Southeast Region. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $15.41 per hour during the January 2023 reference week. The number of gross hours worked averaged 40.1 for hired workers during the reference week, compared with 37.8 hours in January 2022.
There were 25,000 workers hired directly by farms in Florida during the January 2023 reference week. Farm operators paid their hired workers an average gross wage rate of $15.59 per hour, up from $14.48 in January 2022. The number of gross hours worked averaged 41.7 for hired workers during the reference week.
