ATHENS, Ga. — Cotton production in the United States is forecast at 14.2 million bales for 2022, up 2 percent from the previous forecast, but down 19 percent from last year. Sugarcane for sugar and seed is forecast at 34.1 million tons, up 4 percent from the previous year.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the December Crop Production reportÂ
Alabama: Cotton production is forecast at 815,000 bales, up 2 percent from the previous forecast and up 18 percent from 2021.
Florida: Cotton production, at 170,000 bales, is unchanged from the previous forecast but up 42 percent from last year. Sugarcane production for sugar and seed is forecast at 17.3 million tons, up 1 percent from 2021.
Georgia: Cotton production is forecast at 2.50 million bales, unchanged from the previous forecast but up 13 percent from 2021. Pecan production is forecast at 130 million pounds, up 47 percent from last year.
South Carolina: With yield forecast at 906 pounds per acre, cotton production is forecast at 500,000 bales, up 1 percent from the previous forecast and up 18 percent from 2021.
