ATHENS, Ga. — Corn production for grain in the United States is forecast at 14.8 billion bushels, up 4 percent from 2020. Based on conditions as of August 1, yields are expected to average 174.6 bushels per harvested acre. Soybean production for beans is forecast at 4.34 billion bushels, up 5 percent from last year. All cotton production is forecast at 17.3 million 480-pound bales, up 18 percent from 2020.
Key findings for the Southern Region from the August Crop Production include:
Alabama: Corn for grain production is forecast at 56.1 million bushels, up 11 percent from 2020. The average corn yield is forecast at 165 bushels per harvested acre, up 7 bushels from the previous year. Cotton production, at 780,000 bales, is up 6 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at 708 million pounds, up 11 percent from 2020. The average peanut yield is forecast at a record high 4,000 pounds per harvested acre, up 500 pounds from last year. Soybean production, at 13.5 million bushels, is up 20 percent from 2020. The average soybean yield is forecast at 43 bushels per harvested acre, up 2 bushels from last year.
Florida: Cotton production is forecast at 140,000 bales, up 36 percent from 2020. Peanut production is forecast at 644 million pounds, up 15 percent from 2020. The average peanut yield is forecast at 3,900 pounds per harvested acre, up 500 pounds from last year. Sugarcane for sugar and seed production is forecast at 17.3 million tons, down 8 percent from 2020.
Georgia: Corn for grain production is forecast at 71.4 million bushels, up 2 percent from 2020. The average corn yield is forecast at 170 bushels per harvested acre, a 10 bushel decrease from the previous year. Cotton production, at 2.30 million bales, is up 6 percent from last year. Peanut production is forecast at a record high 3.61 billion pounds, up 10 percent from 2020. The average peanut yield is forecast at 4,400 pounds per harvested acre, up 300 pounds from 2020. Soybean production, at 5.04 million bushels, is up 29 percent from last year. The average soybean yield is forecast at 42 bushels per harvested acre, up 1 bushel from last year. Tobacco production is forecast at 18.4 million pounds, down 5 percent from last year to the lowest production total since 1932. Peach production is forecast at 36,000 tons, up 8 percent from 2020.
South Carolina: Corn for grain production is forecast at a record high 53.6 million bushels, up 7 percent from 2020. The average corn yield is forecast at 134 bushels per harvested acre, an increase of 2 bushels from last year. Cotton production, at 370,000 bales, is up 24 percent from 2020. Peanut production is forecast at 248 million pounds, down 11 percent from 2020. The average peanut yield is forecast at a record high 4,000 pounds per harvested acre, up 600 pounds from 2020. Soybean production, at 12.2 million bushels, is up 16 percent from last year. The average soybean yield is forecast at 33 bushels per harvested acre, down 2 bushels from last year. Tobacco production, at 16.0 million pounds, is up 90 percent from 2020. Peach production is forecast at 84,000 tons, up 10 percent from 2020.
