COLUMBIA, S.C. — According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in South Carolina, there were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday, November 8, 2020. Precipitation ranged from no rain to 0.9 inches. Average high temperatures ranged from the mid 60s to the mid 70s. Average low temperatures ranged from the mid 30s to the low 60s.
Crops
Most days started off damp, cloudy, and humid, which slowed the pace of peanut, cotton, and soybean harvesting in the mornings. However, minimal rain and drier afternoon conditions allowed harvesting to continue at a steady pace. Hay cutting was nearly finished for the season.
Strawberry fields looked good, with essentially a full stand and a good amount of new growth. Brassicas were coming along, and harvesting of collards began. Other crops were growing well, and some producers picked tomatoes, squash, and beans. Pest pressure on vegetables remained light in the Pee Dee region. In the Midlands, drier air allowed growersto get a handle on disease issues that have dogged them for the last few weeks.
Livestock and Pastures
Cattle condition remained mostly good.
