COLUMBIA, S.C. — January temperatures were on average 4 to 10 degrees warmer than historical values. Total rainfall for the month ranged from 0.4 inches in Charleston County to 9.8 inches in Greenville County. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the state remained drought free throughout the month.
Winter wheat and oats were looking good; however, excess rainfall prevented producers from applying nitrogen and lime. Producers were preparing fields for planting greens in February. Cattle condition was good, but pastures and winter grazing were in poor condition in some areas due to excess moisture.Â
