FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The School of Global Environmental Sustainability (SoGES) is hosting a March 7 panel discussion on the powerful contribution women are making towards sustainable development.
Pressing challenges facing humanity today and issues from poverty to climate change can be mitigated through the empowerment and education of women.
There is a growing awareness that women are a force in decisions from the local to the global level; they provide knowledge that draws attention to health care, education and discriminatory policies where balance serves as a prerequisite for sustainable development. The panel of scientists will provide insight on how women are forging the path toward environmental stewardship, social justice and economic inequality.
The event will be held at Avogadro’s Number (605 S Mason Street Fort Collins, Colorado 80524) from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.
Panelists
· Meena Balgopal, Department of Biology
· Alexandra Bernasek, Department of Economics
· Emily Fischer, Department of Atmospheric Sciences
· Jennifer Solomon, Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources
The discussion will be moderated by Gene Kelly, associate director for research and development at SoGES, deputy director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and associate dean of Extension.
The panel discussion, part of the Managing the Planet series, is free of charge and open to the public. Visit the SoGES website for more information.
