WHY:
Americans, across the board, frequently do not eat enough fruits and vegetable. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) when looking at adults in all 50 states a few years ago, found that only 13.1% met fruit intake recommendations and 8.9% met vegetable recommendations. The US government tries to reverse this trend in vulnerable populations but increasing access to more fruits and vegetables through various Farmers Market Nutrition Programs. Qualifications for Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons, checks or tokens may be based on several factors including age, income, maternity and veteran status. Festival Farmers Market wants all area residents to know about theses nutrition programs, which can only be redeemed at a farmers market, thereby, help individuals and families serve up high quality, local produce, and other unprocessed foods, more affordably and more frequently because of their participation.
