ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Small farm & Alternative Crops field day has been scheduled for July 23rd from 1-4 pm. Register today by visiting z.umn.edu/smallfarms. Amazing opportunities and resources will be shared at this field day for just $5 for attendance. The event will include a tour of Smude’s Sunflower Oil.
The event will kick off at Smude’s main location at: 500 Centennial Drive Pierz, MN 56364. On the tour there will be opportunities to see parts of sunflower processing- like crushing and pressing. This is a unique tour being offered for the field day. Attendees will be able to ask questions about the processing as well as how the farm got its start in this alternative crop.
After the tour there will be a few small, informal presentations with representatives from a variety of local agricultural organizations, including University of Minnesota Extension, on resources available for small farms and alternative crop options. You will also have the chance to speak with these representatives one on one following the presentations.
The learning opportunities are vast with this field day! Learning more about Sunflower processing, alternative crops, and a few agriculture organization abilities will be interesting and informational.
