BALDWIN, Wis. — The St. Croix County Community Development Department and St. Croix County UW-Extension are teaming up to host a Sinkholes, Karst, and Groundwater Workshop in St. Croix County. The workshop, which will take place on Tuesday July 17th from 9:30AM to 4:00PM, will be held at the American Legion in Baldwin, Wisconsin. Registration begins at 9:00.
Producers and certified crop advisors are invited to attend and learn about the geology of northwestern Wisconsin and how this geology influences groundwater contamination risk. The workshop will also include a field visit to a local quarry with karst features common to the region.
Workshop topics include:
• Karst and groundwater issues in northwestern Wisconsin
• Groundwater testing and monitoring
• St. Croix County geology
• Mapping shallow bedrock
• Sinkholes and depth to bedrock at county-wide scales
• St. Croix County conservation efforts and farmer led council projects
Following the interactive workshop sessions, the group will travel to a local quarry to discuss groundwater flow pathways as seen from quarry outcrops. The workshop will feature speakers from UW-Extension, the St. Croix County Development Department, the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, and the University of Minnesota.
Pre-registration is recommended. Cost is $10 per person with lunch included. A coach bus will be provided for the afternoon field tour.
