ROCHESTER, Minn. — Great food is always in season and fits perfectly every time. For Mother’s Day this year how about shopping for local foods for your favorite Mom?
The FEAST! Local Foods Marketplace online store is open until Wednesday, April 28th in this special, first-ever spring event. Order both unique and staple pantry items that come from Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin food makers. Your choices will be brought together in one order to be picked up at the Graham Park drive-thru no-contact location in Rochester, MN on May 2nd.
Use items from the marketplace to create a fabulous Mother’s Day Brunch! Your menu could include:
Fresh-roasted, organic, fair-trade coffee from Carlson Roasting (Houston, MN), spicy bloody mary pickles from Grandma’s Gourmets (Albert Lea, MN) and bacon flavored cheese curds from CannonBelles Cheese (Cannon Falls, MN), pancake mix locally grown by farmHers at Doubting Thomas Farms (Moorhead, MN) – or grainless granola from Granola Me! (Minneapolis, MN).
Or, just sleep in and go all out for supper! Appetizers could include creative mixers with local honey or maple syrup plus some Mad Maiden Shrub (Madison, WI) and salsa from Warm Fields Farm (Ellsworth, WI). Feature pasture-raised meats from Hidden Stream Farm (Elgin, MN) or O’Neill Family Farm (Rushford, MN), local goat cheese from Capra Nera Creamery (Altura, MN), or go spicy with sambal from Madame Chu (Sun Prairie, WI) or Jerk sauce from West Indies Soul Food (Minneapols, MN), topped off with microgreens from The Greensted (Zumbrota, MN). And don’t forget chocolates from Squash Blossom Farm (Oronoco, MN) or Chocolate San Jose-Minneapolis.
All of these and much more are available from our Foodmaker Directory at www.local-feast.org/directory, where you can also meet the makers virtually, through videos on each foodmaker’s page.
Local food businesses are not only good for keeping dollars in communities. They also allow us to recognize and honor the variety of cultures and flavors these entrepreneurs are bringing to market. We think mom would approve.
