ST. PAUL, Minn. — Many people are interested in starting a sheep or goat enterprise and ask what loan programs and grant opportunities are available to assist new and beginning farmers. Join the University of Minnesota Extension Sheep and Goat Team and invited guests from the Farm Service Agency, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, Natural Resources Conservation Service to explore new and beginning farm programs during a free webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, beginning at 7 pm.
Beginning farmers, 4-Hers, ag lenders and business professionals who work with farmers and those interested in sheep or goats are invited to attend.
Demand for lamb and chevon has increased substantially since WWII along with higher market prices the past few years the potential for profit has increased for sheep and goat farmers. Many beginning farmers interested in a livestock enterprise start with sheep and goats.
“With the animals smaller stature they are sometimes easier to handle,” states Colleen Carlson, University of Minnesota Extension Educator, “and with the right management, farmers on smaller acreages can oftentimes raise enough feedstuffs and provide adequate housing required for smaller flocks.”
Join in on a great educational session from loan and granting agencies to learn what loans and grants are available for beginning farmers and how to make an investment in a sheep or goat enterprise.
