TAVARES, Fla. — After nearly two years, do-it-yourself home gardeners will be again treated to a popular class offered by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County.
The Extension is presenting the Homeowner Education Landscape Program (HELP), a three-class program as part of the Florida Friendly Landscaping Series, which sold out the last time it was hosted in 2015. The nine-hour educational program will be held from 9 a.m. – noon on Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.
Participants are required to attend all three classes, which will address frequently asked questions and problems in the home landscape. The series is being offered to give participants both classroom and hands-on training on calibrating a fertilizer spreader, installing a micro-irrigation system, and selecting plant materials. Attendees will receive micro-irrigation supplies and a Plant Selection and Landscape Design Guide.
The classes will be presented by UF/IFAS Extension Agents Brooke Moffis and Jim Davis, and Master Gardener Steve Guch.
“This class is designed for the do-it-yourselfer wanting to gain knowledge and confidence caring for their own lawn and landscape,” said Moffis.
Class space is limited, and pre-registration is required by Nov. 17. Registration is $30 and is available online at https://help_homeownereducationlandscapeprogram.eventbrite.com.
