OTISVILLE, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties held a day-long Small Ruminant Seminar for local sheep and goat producers. It was hosted with the assistance of Dr. Yang of Catskill Veterinary Services, and held Saturday, September 8 at the new CCE Orange County Education Center and 4-H Park in Otisville, NY.
A variety of farmers and producers participated in workshops covering a variety of topics including tips for beginning sheep and goat producers, veterinary considerations, pasture management and parasite prevention. In the afternoon, groups moved outside for hands-on teaching round-robin style focusing on veterinary procedures, checking your animals for parasites, doing your own fecal analysis for parasites, and flock management.
