BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University Extension is happy to announce Abbigale (Abbi) Steeke as the new 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Hamlin and Kingsbury counties.
As the 4-H Youth Program Advisor, Steeke will support youth through providing hands-on educational opportunities.
Steeke graduated from SDSU in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science and minors in animal science, agricultural business and agricultural business marketing. Prior to that, she earned her associate degree from Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas, where she also competed on the livestock judging team from 2019-2021.
“Abbi is one of the kindest people I have gotten to work with. Her positive attitude, care for others, and enthusiasm for 4-H make her a terrific asset to SDSU Extension’s 4-H program,” said Oakley G. Perry, SDSU Extension 4-H County Operations and Professional Development Program Manager. “We have high hopes for Abbi, and I know she will impress us all. Both counties are lucky to have her.”
A native of North Dakota, Steeke grew up on a commercial cow/calf operation while also raising commercial and show sheep and goats. She was an active participant in 4-H and FFA, showing sheep and goats at the county, state and national level, and pigs and cattle at the county level.
“I have a big passion for agriculture, and especially the youth,” Steeke said. “I look forward to working with 4-H members.”
