BROOKINGS, S.D. — SDSU Extension will, once again, deliver a series of virtual Crop Hour webinars this winter. Starting Jan. 11, every Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. CST, participants are invited to take their coffee break online to hear the latest in crop management and agronomic research from SDSU Extension.
“This online program will be offered to anyone interested,” said Sara Bauder, SDSU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist. “Participants will have the opportunity to take in as many as 24 different sessions to hear about current crop production topics and issues, as well as learn from last year’s research while making plans for next year.”
Crop Hour will open with the first week’s presentations dedicated to the management of corn including pest management, hybrid information, soil fertility and more. The following weeks will cover a different area of agronomic production, from soybeans and wheat to cover crops and climate. The webinar series will conclude March 3.
“This webinar series will offer information for producers across the state and region, allowing participants to choose what topics they are most interested in,” said Paul Johnson, SDSU Extension Weed Science Coordinator. “These webinars are designed to provide valuable information to producers and agribusiness people to improve efficiency and profitability within their businesses.”
Crop Hour dates and topic areas are as follows:
January
Jan. 11-13: Corn
Jan. 18-20: Soybean
Jan. 25-27: Sunflower
February
Feb. 1-3: Wheat
Feb. 8-10: Cover Crops and Soil Health
Feb. 15-17: Forages/Pulse Crops/Oats
Feb. 22-24: Climate, Market, and Management Considerations
March
March 1-3: Precision Ag- Soil, Crop, and Water Management
There is no fee to attend, but participants are encouraged to register for the weekly webinars on the SDSU Extension Crops page at extension.sdstate.edu/
Zoom links and reminders will be emailed to registered attendees, and continuing education credits (CEUs) will be available for Certified Crop Advisers for each session.
In addition to Crop Hour, SDSU Extension will be hosting the Agronomy Road Show, which will consist of a series of in-person meetings across the state focusing on crop updates, pest management (weed, insect, and plant diseases), soil fertility topics, markets and more.
