SD Corn Growers’ annual meeting

Soil health, farm bill and grain marketing are key topics

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — TV host Mike Pearson will serve as master of ceremonies for the South Dakota Corn Growers Association’s 31st annual meeting Saturday (Jan. 21) at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Pearson is host of “Market to Market” and “Weekly Journal of Rural America.”

The event will include a full day of presentations on topics that include grain marketing, soil health and the next farm bill. All of the presentations are free. So is lunch for those who pre-register at sdcorn.org. South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Mike Jaspers will be the luncheon speaker.

9 a.m. – Welcome by Mike Pearson, Market to Market TV host

9:15 a.m. – Marketing session presented by Ted Seifried, chief market strategist with the Zaner Ag Hedge Group

10:30 a.m. – Soil health panel featuring Nick Goeser, director of the Soil Health Partnership and director of soil health and sustainability for the National Corn Growers Association; Wayne Honeycutt, president and CEO of the Soil Health Institute; and Doug Karlen, distinguished senior research scientist with the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service

12:45 p.m. – Lunch program featuring South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Mike Jaspers

2 p.m. – Farm bill discussion presented by panelists Chris Clayton, ag policy editor for DTN/The Progressive Farmer; David DeGennaro, agricultural policy specialist at the National Wildlife Federation; and Christy Seyfert, assistant vice president and director of crop insurance for Rural Community Insurance Services

4 p.m. – Mike Pearson, “The Final Word”

5:30 p.m. – Social, silent auction and evening banquet featuring National Corn Growers Association CEO Chris Novak as keynote speaker and Jim Woster, a well-known South Dakota agriculture advocate, as master of ceremonies

8:45 p.m. – Entertainment by the Surf City Allstars, a band composed of members of the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean
