CLEMSON, S.C. — Extension’s Division of Assessment and Scholarship will be hosting Scientific Writing Workshops in August at three locations throughout the state. The workshop will be taught by Ms. Megan Pietruszewski, Lecturer, Clemson University Department of English. The purpose of the workshops is to provide training on effective writing skills that can be utilized for authoring Extension publications; articles for academic journals; or content for newsletters, newspapers and other media outlets. Training will also be provided on how to become a constructive peer reviewer. Registration is only open to Extension agents and specialists and is for those who may like to learn or enhance their writing skills.
Attendees will be asked to bring an existing publication for revision or an idea for a new one. Writing and small group discussion time is built into the schedule to allow attendees a hands-on approach for applying new skills learned and provide them with the opportunity to leave with an improved revision or a detailed outline for a new publication. Additionally, faculty and staff with extensive writing backgrounds will be available to provide individual assistance and answer specific questions related to the writing process.
Registration for the workshop is FREE, but there are space limitations, therefore early registration is highly encouraged. Registered attendees must be prepared to bring a laptop, an existing publication or an idea for a new article. Clemson Extension will provide refreshments, lunch, and each attendee will receive a copy of the book: “Writing Papers in the Biological Sciences” by V.E. McMillan. This book provides an introduction on how to write scientific publications and is a useful resource for writers of all levels.
Registration closes at 4:30pm on August 1.
