FAITH, S.D. — Jason Reed, 4th-generation owner of the Reed Ranch on Brushie Creek at Faith, South Dakota, is one of 15 contestants who have qualified for the World Finals in his class at the National Cutting Horse Association World Show in Ft. Worth, Texas on December 1 & 2, 2017.
The NCHA World Finals Show is limited to the fifteen top money winners during 2017 in each of their twelve classes, and Jason Reed is currently the top money winner in the $50,000 Amateur Class.
Jason has used cutting horses during all of his lifetime of ranching, and began competing in the NCHA cuttings a few years ago. He started on a ranch-raised cutting horse and moved up through the beginner classes, and then a few years ago he started riding limited-age horses with Tracy Barton, a professional cutting-horse trainer from Pierre, SD. Jason has competed twice at the national level at the Fort Worth Futurity making it to the semi-finals both times. Last year he placed fifth in the cutting division at the American Quarter Horse Association World Show, and took Grand Champion at the American Paint Horse Association World Finals.
At the beginning of this year Jason decided to run for the NCHA $50,000 Amateur title. A big win at Las Vegas in March and another at Oklahoma City in June set the stage for him to be very competitive in a run for the world title. You may see his standings at http://archive.nchacutting.com/T50000.shtml. Reed said, ”Traveling from Queen Creek, Arizona to Batesville, Mississippi and from Pierre, South Dakota to Gonzales, Texas not only brought enough winnings to be a World Finals contender, but also provided a superb opportunity to see more of our wonderful country and meet so many great people.”
