S.C. Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting

Meeting will be held September 7-8 in the Clemson area

Please join us for the 2022 South Carolina Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting (Sept. 7-8, 2022). The meeting will take place in the Clemson area. The field tour will be on September 7th with registration starting at 9:30 am and our classroom session will be on September 8th with registration starting at 8:30 am. We will also be having a social following the field tour at the Pickens Bend Shooting Range in Pendleton, SC (file courtesy photo)

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Please join us for the 2022 South Carolina Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting (Sept. 7-8, 2022). The meeting will take place in the Clemson area. The field tour will be on September 7th with registration starting at 9:30 am and our classroom session will be on September 8th with registration starting at 8:30 am. We will also be having a social following the field tour at the Pickens Bend Shooting Range in Pendleton, SC. More details will follow as we get closer to the meeting.

Day 1: $25 Sept. 7th: We will learn about prescribed fire programs in the SC mountains. At Table Rock State Park, we will discuss the importance of partnerships to implement prescribed burning in the SC mountain state parks. We will look at multiple burn units in the park and briefly discuss the Pinnacle Mountain Wildfire. At the Andrew Pickens Ranger District, we will hear about the short-leaf restoration project that the USFS has implemented across the Sumter National Forest. There will also be a stop to explore an oak woodland restoration site that has undergone multiple treatments including prescribed fire.

Social: No cost Sept. 7th: The social will follow the field tour at Pickens Bend Shooting Range in Pendleton, SC.

Day 2: $75 Sept. 8th: The classroom portion will be held at T. Ed Garrison Arena in Pendleton, SC. Topics to cover will include dendrochronology and prescribed fire history, Conservation Legacy Fire Corps, seasonality of prescribed fire in the mountains, duff fires and delayed mortality, ruffed grouse and fire, role of cooperative extension in prescribed fire education, prescribed burn associations, Fire Tigers, and awards (topics subject to change).
