WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in South Carolina, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday, May 1, 2022. Precipitation ranged from no rain to .8 inches. Average high temperatures ranged from the low 70s to the mid 80s. Average low temperatures ranged from the high 30s to the mid 60s.
Crops
Dry and warm conditions persisted across the state with little to no rainfall during the week. Some drought stress is anticipated in the coming week if the dry conditions continue. Most producers finished or were close to finished planting corn while much of the planted corn has already emerged. Some cotton, soybean, and peanut producers started to plant their crops and more will start planting in the coming weeks. Many farmers cut hay for the first time this season and winter wheat was headed given the favorable conditions. Transplanted tobacco plants continue to develop and a decent pace.
Livestock and Pastures
Cattle and pasture and range conditions remained in mostly good condition.
