WINTERS, Texas — Timely information and an up-close look at a promising cotton crop are on the agenda for the Runnels County Annual Cotton Field Day set for Sept. 27, said a program coordinator.
Joel Webb, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service integrated pest management agent for Runnels and Tom Green counties, said the annual event will start at 9 a.m. on the Paul Minzenmayer farm at the intersection of County Roads 300 and 303 at Poe’s Corner off Texas Highway 153 halfway between Winters and Wingate.
The program will end with a noon meal at the Winters Community Center, 410 Novice Road in Winters.
“We’ve had a good year thanks to timely rains, so we should see some great cotton while hearing the latest information affecting the industry and our area, which should make for a productive day for our area’s cotton producers,” Webb said.
Activities, topics and speakers will include:
- Cotton Variety Plots and Harvest Aid Discussion and Cotton Variety Updates, Dr. Seth Byrd, AgriLife Extension cotton agronomist, Lubbock.
- Cotton Bollworm Updates, Dr. Charles Allen, AgriLife Extension entomologist, San Angelo.
- Farm Service Agency, Southern Rolling Plains Cotton Growers Association and Boll Weevil Program Updates.
The day’s activities are free, but organizers ask participants to RSVP by Sept. 20 for an accurate meal count. For more information and to RSVP, call the AgriLife Extension office in Runnels County at 325-365-2219.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one integrated pest management and one general – will be offered.
