NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County wants to help you grow quality food for your family and friends as well as pick the best plants for your landscape with the return of their weekly webcast RU Ready 2 Garden. The one-hour webcast will take place each Tuesday in April of 2022 at 6:30 pm.
Master Gardener educators and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment station experts will offer advice for gardeners of all levels with a different topic each week. Participants will learn from these online live presentations that will occasionally include how to videos and virtual visits to local farms.

Topic:Â –Â The Benefits of Companion Planting
Companion planting uses the properties of one plant species to reduce pest damage and enhance the growing conditions of nearby plants. Companion planting has its origins in both science and folklore. In this session we will discuss both and the features of allies, companions, and adversaries.
Agricultural Agent and Professor Bill Hlubik. Bill has 30 years of experience in the production, research and marketing of specialty crops. Professor Hlubik teaches Sustainable Agriculture and Starting a Small Farm Classes for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Erika Leviant and Phyllis Frederick are Middlesex County Master Gardeners with many years of experience growing certain crops on a large and small scale. They recently help author the Fact Sheet 1223 Growing Garlic in the Home Garden for Rutgers NJAES with Bill Hlubik.
