RENSSELAER CO., N.Y. — The recipient of this year’s Rosekrans Award is the outstanding Gabrielle (Abbie) Tarbox.
This award is selected by the cattle program in memory of Helen Rosekrans, a long time cattle leader and Schaghticoke Fair “Mom” to all. It is designed to recognize an outstanding high school graduating senior who has been a “model” 4-H member and who has been involved in the cattle program throughout their 4-H Career. Members who have been active not only in showing cattle, but have taken advantage of other offerings 4-H has in terms of the educational events related to cattle.
Gabrielle Tarbox, daughter of David and Jane Tarbox of Brunswick, grew up on a multi-generation dairy farm; and has worked the farm since she could hold a pitchfork. Abbie has been a member of 4-H for 15 years and has participated in numerous activities on the county, state and national level. She participated on the Dairy Bowl team, is a true advocate for agriculture and gave numerous public presentations when called upon. She represented Rensselaer County in the New York Junior Dairy Lead Program and traveled to Alaska and Arizona making lifelong friends with our Teen Exchange Program. Abbie is an enthusiastic and dedicated young leader; from giving tips in the show ring to giving assistance with clipping, Abbie is always there when her peers need her. She is currently a freshman at Cornell University. She is majoring in Dairy Science, and plans to pursue a career in Agriculture. Congratulations Abbie!
