LINCOLN — Friday, Governor Pete Ricketts applauded collaboration between the White House and Nebraska’s Department of Transportation (DOT). On Wednesday, DOT Director Kyle Schneweis attended a White House event which brought state and local officials together to discuss infrastructure needs and solutions. The event was focused on ways for the White House to work with states directly to better deliver projects and cut red tape. The state and local officials were joined by the United States Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and the Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney as well as other senior White House staff members.
“This roundtable underscores how the Trump Administration is reaching out to the states to develop solutions to address the priorities of our diverse country,” said Governor Pete Ricketts. “Nebraska’s infrastructure priorities share similarities with Iowa, South Dakota, and our neighbors, but also require tailored solutions to meet our unique needs. The solutions which work for one state may not work for another. This collaboration promotes good communication between the states and the federal government. Better communication allows us to deliver better customer service and results for the people of Nebraska.”
“I appreciated the invitation to share Nebraska’s perspective with the Administration and hear from other states about the current challenges that come with delivering infrastructure projects,” said DOT Director Schneweis. “I’m encouraged by the collaborative approach the White House has taken to engage state and local officials in order to bring common sense solutions forward on how best to rebuild and enhance our country’s infrastructure network.”
This event was part of an enterprise-wide effort by the Trump Administration to change the culture of the federal government to be more customer friendly by listening to the states when developing initiatives that impact state and local government.
