STOCKTON, Mo. — “The 100th edition of the Southwest Missouri All Breeds Performance Tested Bull Sale sold thirty-nine performance and genomically tested bulls on October 31st at the Springfield Livestock Marketing Center near Springfield, MO,” says Patrick Davis MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist. The bulls averaged $3,330 which is approximately $350 less than the Fall 2021 sale.

“The top selling Angus bull brought $5,400 and was consigned by longtime consigner Valley View Angus Farms, Republic, MO,” says Davis.  The successful bidder was Fred & Connie Sieker, Butler, MO.  The Siekers were also the successful bidder of the second high selling Angus bull which brought $5,000 and was consigned by longtime consignor Fred Swartzentruber, Blue Mound Angus, El Dorado Springs, MO.  The third high selling Angus bull was consigned by Sheldon Swartzentruber, Blue Mound Angus, El Dorado Springs, MO and brought $4,800 with the successful bidder being Richard and Janet Eck, Pierce City, MO.  The average of the 34 Angus bulls that sold was $3,373.

“The four Sim-Angus bulls sold for an average of $3,075,” says Davis.  The top selling Sim-Angus bull consigned by new consignor Clemons Cattle Company, Fair Play, MO sold for $4,000 and was purchased by Lance Fox, Stockton, MO.  Second high selling Sim-Angus bull, consigned by Ed Vest, Vestlane Farm, Polk, MO sold for $2,900 and was purchased by Rex Clemans, Taneyville, MO.

“The only Hereford bull to sell was consigned by Kyle Wake, Flying W Farms, Willow Springs, MO and sold for $2,900 to Darren and April Wilerson, Miller, MO,” says Davis.

These bull sales by the Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association began in 1973. Consignors must be from the 22 counties in extreme southwestern Missouri from Vernon to Laclede and south to Howell County. The association cooperates with MU Extension livestock field specialists for guidance on the use of performance and genomics to help educate both buyers and sellers on using objective data to make selections on the farm and at sales.

The next sale will be March 27, 2023, at the Springfield Livestock Marketing Center near Springfield, MO. For details, contact sale manager Phoebe Wiles, Willow Springs, MO, 417-293-8002, or your local MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist.
