Inaugural Resilient Harvests Conference announces two keynote speakers

PUBLISHED ON July 27, 2022

Resilient Harvest Conference

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Resilient Harvests Conference, a brand-new conference built around the policies, programs, and practices that advance efficient greenhouse and vertical farming, announced two of their keynote speakers today. The conference will take place November 1-2 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach in Long Beach, CA.

Keynote highlights include:

  • Andrew McAllister, Commissioner, California Energy Commission
  • Dr. Chieri Kubota, Director of Ohio Controlled Environment Agriculture Center, The Ohio State University

“Commissioner McAllister and Dr. Kubota represent the caliber of conversation-starters who will drive the dialogue at the Resilient Harvests Conference” said Derek Smith, Executive Director of Resource Innovation Institute. “California leads globally on energy and climate policy, and Ohio State leads on CEA research. The merging of these topics will stoke the solutions we need to collaboratively build a resilient agricultural future.”

Commissioner Andrew McAllister is currently servicing his third term on the California Energy Commission. Since the early 1990s, McAllister has worked on energy deployment and policy, and has since led the policy area of energy efficiency, including the Building Energy Efficiency Standards, appliance efficiency, and load management and flexibility. More broadly, he is focused on enabling modern, data-rich analytical tools to support strong clean energy policy development and program implementation. Under McAllister’s leadership, the Commission is set for a January rollout of the Title 24, Part 6, Energy Code for Controlled Environment Horticulture, which will establish a global reference point for CEA energy requirements.

Dr. Chieri Kubota is a professor in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, and Director of Ohio Controlled Environment Agriculture Center at The Ohio State University. In research, her focus is on science-based technology development for CEA crop production such as lighting technologies, water and nutrient management, and introducing new crops for CEA. She will bring her knowledge and experience to the conference by leading a conversation on “Translating CEA to regional needs for a resilient agricultural future.”

The full conference agenda is expected to be released within the next month. Visit the Resilient Harvests Conference website to sign up for the latest updates and register before prices increase. To connect with and network with other controlled environment agriculture leaders join the official Resilient Harvests Conference LinkedIn group.

About Resource Innovation Institute: Resilient harvests for the next hundred years

Resource Innovation Institute is an objective, data-driven non-profit organization whose mission is to measure, verify and celebrate the world’s most efficient agricultural ideas. We cultivate a better future for all of humanity with our vision of resilient harvests for the next hundred years. Our consortium of members brings perspectives from across the field—uniting architects and engineers, growers and operators, researchers and analysts. Founded in 2016 to advise governments, utilities and industry leaders on the resource impacts of indoor cultivation, an under-studied and resource-intensive market, we have since extended our research to other sectors in partnership with the US Department of Agriculture. To take on the challenges of our changing world, we believe that food, medicine and other vital crops demand data-driven insights, securely shared with integrity. By nurturing the human connections in our complex and dynamic industry, we can build deeply restorative systems for people and the planet. Visit our website at ResourceInnovation.org.
