GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 19th Annual Guilford County Fall into Gardening Seminar is planned for Thursday, September 17, 2020, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The event, sponsored by N.C. Cooperative Extension and N.C. Extension Master GardenerSM volunteers, will take place at N.C. Cooperative Extension, Guilford County Center, 3309 Burlington Rd. in Greensboro. Three exceptional speakers will present 4 keynote talks centered on “Growing New Perspectives” in the world of gardening.
PBS star and Emmy award winner Joe Lamp’l of the series “Growing a Greener World” will recount some of his favorite episodes with “Behind the Scenes: Gardeners Who Have Inspired Me.” Through beautiful video and award- winning photography, you’ll meet fascinating people and places and learn the innovative ideas of people doing great things for the planet. Later, Joe will stimulate your thinking and entertain as he shares seven significant concepts for “Greening your Garden While Protecting the Planet.”
One of Lamp’l’s own gardening heroes, former NFL center Jason Brown, will also tell his inspiring story, “From Football to First Fruits Farm.” Jason walked away from a 35 million dollar contract to be a large scale farmer in Louisburg, NC, using Youtube as his first farming tutor. Now he donates everything he grows to food banks in the area and has gathered the respect and help of innumerable people and groups to make a difference in food- insecurity.
Landscape architect Nancy Seay of Seay Partners in Greensboro, has the philosophy of using nature on your site to inspire the landscaping, whether in residential, commercial, or institutional settings. She will give a PowerPoint presentation, “Perspectives on Nature-inspired Landscaping,” to show how working with nature instead of against it gives the most desirable results.
Registration begins June 1 and ends September 1 (or earlier if sold out). Early registration is strongly recommended as seats are limited. The $50 non-refundable fee includes continental breakfast, catered lunch, vendors with garden- related items, door prizes, and gift bags, plus a silent auction of exciting items, including hotel and restaurant certificates.
