ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has opened registration for Annie’s Project, a program focused on empowering women in agriculture, to be held in Rock Rapids during January and February 2019.
Annie’s Project is a six-session course created for women by women, with the purpose of guiding agri-women in making or helping to make decisions for their farm and/or agribusiness. Sessions will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 14 and Feb. 21 at the Frontier Bank Basement in Rock Rapids. Each of the evenings, there will be a meal at 5:30 p.m. with the session time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“Annie’s Project is an agricultural business education program that empowers farm and ranch women who want to be more knowledgeable about their agricultural enterprises,” said Gary Wright, Farm Management Specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “One of the foundations of Annie’s Project is that women learn best with and from other women, so the sessions will be led by women who are experts in their field. We strive to create a comfortable and supportive learning environment focused on the best farm management practices.”
Course participants will learn effective strategies to make good decisions in five key management areas including financial, human resources, legal, marketing, and production topics. The course will include guest speakers, practical hands-on activities, decision-making resources, and networking with other women in agriculture.
“Whether women are the sole operators of their agricultural operation or working in partnership with their spouse or other business partners, Annie’s Project provides women with the knowledge and resources they need to be successful in the industry,” Wright said. “We have had a lot of interest in Annie’s Project throughout Northwest Iowa in the past few years, so we are excited to offer it here to Lyon County residents.”
There is a $75 course fee to participate in Annie’s Project, which includes all meals and educational resources.
