AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry is currently accepting proposals for Reducing Hunger and Promoting Maine Agriculture (RFP# 201910177). Proposals will be accepted through Monday, December 2nd. Nonprofit organizations based in Maine and providing statewide hunger relief services are invited to apply.
The Request for Proposals derives from LD 786, An Act to Reduce Hunger and Promote Maine Agriculture, passed by the 129th Legislature. LD 786 directs the Department to select and contract with a nonprofit organization to engage in statewide hunger relief services, including, but not limited to, the purchase of food from Maine food producers and processors, to provide grants to local hunger relief programs, and to pay the operational and distribution expenses of the organization. $1M is available for the work in FY 2019-2020 with an option to renew for an additional $1M in FY 2020-2021. Funding may be sub-awarded to other organizations to further the scope of work, with prior approval from the Department.
Interested providers must have experience in providing hunger relief services in Maine, and have the capacity to partner with other organizations through a formal subaward process to facilitate a broad scope of services. To demonstrate this experience and capacity, interested providers must present a proposal demonstrating the maximum impact from the funds towards reducing hunger and promoting Maine agriculture.
