UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Rainey Rosemond, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, has been appointed as a dairy educator for Penn State Extension in Berks County, effective July 1.
As a member of the Penn State Extension Dairy Team, Rosemond will conduct dairy production and business management educational programs for the dairy industry. These programs and information are provided through meetings, webinars and other virtual delivery methods, as well as via individual, on-farm assistance.
Rosemond recently completed a master’s degree in animal biology from the University of California, Davis. Her thesis was titled, “Impacts of Feeding Monensin to High Producing Dairy Cattle fed a Contemporary California Diet.”
While there, she also served as a teaching assistant for educational courses focused on domestic animal production, reproduction and lactation. In addition, she assisted in a research trial with the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank determining milk and meat residues with off-label drug use.
Rosemond earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Virginia Tech, where she worked on several research teams studying feed additives and dietary effects on volatile fatty acid production, microbial communities and epithelial function in dairy production.
David Swartz, Penn State Extension assistant director for animal systems programs, said Rosemond brings valuable experience to the Penn State Extension Dairy Team.
“Our dairy team members work with all segments of the dairy industry,” he said. “Rainey Rosemond’s experience with the California dairy industry and her training in ruminant nutrition make her a great addition to the Penn State Dairy Team and the Extension team in Berks County, as well as an asset to the dairy industry in Berks and surrounding counties.”
Rosemond can be reached at the Berks County office of Penn State Extension at 610-378-1327 or by email at rfr49@psu.edu.
