WASHINGTON — The Senate voted 50-48 along party lines Thursday to approve the nomination of Montanan Tracy Stone-Manning to lead the Bureau of Land Management, an agency that manages 245 million acres of federal lands and approximately 30 percent of the nation’s subsurface mineral estate.
Rural & Agriculture CouncilĀ of America (RACA) President Jack Alexander applaudedĀ the Senate’s confirmationĀ vote, stating:
“BLM needs a leader that can work with a wide variety of people and land uses. Ms. Stone-Manning has shown a willingness and ability to do that. Our work with her indicates she is qualified and motivated to make changes in BLM operations and push for effective working relationships with stakeholders.
“BLM needs a leader that brings everyone to the conversation and builds workable solutions to maintain working landscapes. RACA looks forward to working with Ms. Stone-Manning in her new role on a wide variety of issues impacting public lands users.”
