FRANKFORT — Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles congratulated Gracie Furnish of Harrison County on her election as Eastern Region vice president at the National FFA Convention last week in Indianapolis.

“Gracie is one of six officers who will lead FFA at the national level,” Commissioner Quarles said. “As an FFA kid myself, I know being elected a national FFA officer is a high honor that very few members achieve. Congratulations to Gracie, and best wishes on her term as FFA Eastern Region vice president.”

The Eastern Region consists of 18 states from Maine to Kentucky.

Also at the National FFA Convention Oct. 25-28, Spencer County FFA won the Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event for the eighth time since 2006. Hannah York of Caldwell County was selected national winner in Agriculture Sales Entrepreneurship Proficiency. Many other Kentucky chapters and members were finalists in various FFA competitions.

The American FFA Degree, the organization’s highest honor, was awarded to 91 Kentucky FFA members. State FFA Advisor Brandon Davis received the Honorary American FFA Degree for his service on the National FFA Foundation Board of Trustees over the past three years.

“Kentucky FFA chapters and members always excel at the National FFA Convention,” Commissioner Quarles said. “We are recognized nationwide as a leader in FFA. I commend all the chapters, teams, and individuals who were honored at the convention, and I thank all the sponsors, volunteers, and parents who helped make their achievements possible.”
