FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Gulf Citrus Growers Association and Florida Citrus Mutual are pleased to announce that the 2017 “CELEBRATION” dinner will feature Sonny Perdue, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and Dr. Michael Martin, Florida Gulf Coast University’s new president. The evening event, scheduled for August 16th at the Alico Arena on the FGCU campus is being hosted by the Gulf Citrus Growers Association, Florida Citrus Mutual, the University of Florida/IFAS and Florida Gulf Coast University.
“It is anticipated that this year’s event will be ‘extra special’ and a ‘must attend’ event,” said Ron Hamel, GCGA’s executive vice president. “Congressman Tom Rooney invited Secretary Perdue to come to his district in Florida to tour citrus groves and discuss the industry’s challenges with ‘greening’, as well as visit with growers…and it is wonderful that the Secretary is taking him up on his invitation,” added Hamel. “We are especially pleased that Congressman Rooney and Secretary Perdue will spend the evening here at our ‘celebration dinner’ in Southwest Florida’s ‘Gulf’ region, and that Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam will also serve as our master of ceremonies for this event.”
