UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sheep and goat producers, as well as other agriculture industries, are invited to join the Pennsylvania State and Federal Sheep and Goat Scrapie Regulations and Updates webinar from 7 to 9 p.m., Nov. 17. This webinar will review Pennsylvania scrapie regulations for sheep and goat identification as well as cover new updates to the regulations.
Penn State Extension, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Pa. Department of Agriculture are hosting the webinar. Stephanie Ringler, designated scrapie epidemiologist for Pa. and W.Va., will cover policies regarding sheep and goat scrapie identification guidelines. There will be a question and answer session lead by Ringler; Michael Kornreich, area veterinarian for Pa. and W.Va.; and Kevin Brightbill, Pa. Department of Agriculture state veterinarian.
“Pennsylvania’s identification requirements differ from the national requirements, so it is important that producers understand that all sheep and goats regardless of age must be properly identified whenever they leave the farm of origin,” said Melanie Barkley, Penn State Extension educator and moderator for the event.
The webinar will also cover record keeping requirements.
There is no cost to attend the webinar. Registration is requested by November 16. Participants will receive the webinar address in their confirmation email and call-in information will be provided to anyone without access to a computer and internet.
