MONROE CO., N.Y. — Produced in New York is an experiential cooking program offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County’s 4-H Youth Development Program. The event is for 4-H youth between the ages of 5 and 19! The event will be held on March 20, 2021 at 11 AM.
Produced in New York will be virtual or in person at The Strong Museum of Play. Attendance of event will be up to participants and family members discretion. Caregivers are expected to stay if the participants require adult support. Youth not currently enrolled in 4-H are encouraged to participate. Enrollment forms are located at this link: http://monroe.cce.cornell.edu/4-h-youth-development/join-4-h
Produced in New York is a silent 30-minute demonstration presented by youth concurrently with their peers to portray their cooking techniques. They will choose a recipe using an ingredient produced in New York (i.e., apples, corn, tomatoes etc.). They will be evaluated during their demonstration and on their final product. Evaluators will not be tasting the dishes.
Any participants that choose to attend the event in-person are responsible for bringing in and carrying out their own utensils, hotplates, display dishes, and any other ingredients that they will need.
This experience will help the participants learn skills to prepare and present cooking techniques for evaluation. This program will help participants develop hands-on experience of food preparation and presentation skills. Participants will also have a chance to learn the importance of organization and time management.
The Monroe County 4-H Program is offered through Cornell Cooperative Extension to the youth of Monroe County. 4-H is a worldwide youth development program open to all youth ages 5 to 19, who want to have fun, learn new skills, and explore the world. In return, youth who participate in 4-H find a supportive environment and opportunities for hands-on or “experiential” learning about things that interest them.
