EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Fall Potato production in North Dakota is 20.8 million hundredweight, down 25 percent from 2015, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Yield, at 325 hundredweight per acre, is down 20 hundredweight from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 64 thousand acres, is down 16 thousand acres from 2015.
Sugarbeet production is estimated at 6.24 million tons, up 9 percent from last year. Yield is estimated at a new record high 30.8 tons per acre, up 2.9 tons from the previous year. Acres harvested are estimated at 203 thousand acres, down 1 percent from the previous year.
Corn for grain production in North Dakota, based on year-end surveys, is estimated at a new record high of 517 million bushels, up 58 percent from 2015. The new record yield of 158 bushels per acre is up 30 bushels from last year. Farmers harvested 3.27 million acres of corn for grain up 28 percent from 2015.
Soybean production for 2016 totaled a new record high of 249 million bushels, up 34 percent from 2015. Yield, at a new record high 41.5 bushels per acre, is up 9 bushels from a year earlier. Area for harvest, at a new record high of 6.00 million acres, is up 5 percent 2015.
Oil sunflower production in 2016 is 1.06 billion pounds, up 19 percent from last year. The new record yield, at 1,730 pounds per acre, is up 260 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 610 thousand acres, is up 1 percent from 2015. Non-oil sunflower production of 85.3 million pounds is down 52 percent from last year. Yield at 1,550 pounds per acre, is down 300 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at a new record low 55 thousand acres, is down 42 thousand acres from 2015.
Canola production of 2.66 billion pounds, a new record high, is up 7 percent from last year. Yield of 1,840 pounds per acre is up 60 pounds from a year earlier and ties the record yield in 2009. Area harvested, at 1.45 million acres, is up 45 thousand acres from 2015.
Flaxseed production is estimated at 7.92 million bushels, down 15 percent from 2015. Yield per harvested acre is estimated at 24.0 bushels, up 1.0 bushels from last year and ties the record in 2009. Acres harvested are estimated at 330 thousand, down from 405 thousand acres a year ago.
Dry edible bean production of 8.91 million hundredweight is up slightly from a year ago. Yield, at 1,580 pounds per acre, is up 180 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 565 thousand acres, is down 11 percent from 2015.
Dry edible pea production is estimated at a new record high of 12.3 million hundredweight, up 52 percent from 2015. Yield is estimated at 2,250 pounds per acre, up 100 pounds from last year. Acres harvested are estimated at 545 thousand, up 45 percent from a year ago.
Lentil production is estimated at 3.77 million hundredweight, up 78 percent from the previous year. Yield is estimated at 1,270 pounds per acre, down 40 pounds from last year. Acres harvested are estimated at a new record high of 297 thousand, up 83 percent from 2015.
Safflower production is estimated at 9.88 million pounds, down 10 percent from last year. Yield is estimated at new record high 1,250 pounds per acre, up 200 pounds from last year. Acres harvested are estimated at 7,900, down 24 percent from a year ago.
