SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The purpose of Pork Power is to assist Illinois farmers in giving back to their communities in a way they know best, pigs. Whether it be through animals or equivalent market value, our farmers care about their communities and the families that live there. The annual Pork Power campaign will run from May 1 through July 31, 2017.
Producers can participate in two ways:
1) They may donate pigs/sows directly to a participating processor
2) They can donate the cash value of any pigs/sows sold at market locations.
* Eligible hogs are lightweight market hogs (160 lbs. minimum), market weight hogs and sows.
No boars will be accepted.
In 2016, the Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA), along with the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, and the Illinois Soybean Association, donated over 65,000 pounds of ground pork to eight regional food banks throughout Illinois. That equals more than 260,000 servings of pork that will feed families in Illinois.
Pork Power was launched by IPPA in 2008. Since then the program has donated over 565,000 pounds of pork or 2.3 million meals and provided a much-need source of protein to families throughout Illinois.
Please consider donating to this special cause this summer.
