MONTROSE, Pa. — Begin your garden journey this season with Susquehanna County Penn State Extension Master Gardener Howard Burkett as he teaches the major steps of vegetable gardening! Join Howard on Tuesday, February 28 at 2 pm at the Montrose Library, High School Road, Montrose.
With ‘Planning and Planting and Harvesting…. Oh My!’ participants will learn what, when, and how much to plant. Topics covered are-how to plant and transplant, watering, fertilizing, weeding, and pest control. The program offers ideas for harvesting and a segment on steam canning! Howard will teach the process of closing the garden at the end of the growing season. Technology use in the garden including automated watering and new types of soaker hoses and tools is included.
The program will showcase a local Penn State Extension initiative called ‘Seed to Supper.’ This is a comprehensive, eight-week adult beginner’s gardening course that provides gardeners on a limited budget the resources they need to successfully grow a portion of their own food.
Program cost is $5. To register stop by the Montrose Library, High School Road, or the Penn State Extension Office, 88 Chenango Street, Montrose. Call the Library at 570.278.1881 for more information. There will be prizes awarded to participants during the program! Be sure to bring your list of gardening questions! Seating is limited, so don’t wait too long or you may not have a GREAT tomato for your sandwich in August!
