ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Penn State Extension is offering a one-day class for anyone who is interested in growing perennials plants to sell, or who would like to learn about ways to improve their plant nursery’s production system. The course will be held at Meadowood Senior Living, 3205 Skippack Pike, Worcester, PA 19490.
Dr. Robert Berghage, Penn State Associate Professor of Horticulture, will discuss start-up considerations and production basics including setting up a production facility, plug versus seed production, choosing potting media, irrigation, fertility, pest management and overwintering perennial plants.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions and network with other new growers. Learn what is working well for other growers and find out what new plants are out there. The Perennial Production for Beginning Growers class may help you decide which plants will make money for your business and fit your market niche.
This class has been approved for two pesticide update credits in categories 06, 18, 23 and PC by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The cost is $60 per person which includes handouts, morning snacks and lunch. Preregistration is required by Nov. 2.
