LEMOYNE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Grange President Wayne Campbell issued the following statement because of the June 22nd vote by the Pennsylvania Senate passing Senate Bill 434 and transmittal to Governor Wolf:
“The Pennsylvania State Grange congratulates the Pennsylvania Senate for its unanimous vote on June 22nd and the previous June 16th vote of 201-1 by the PA House for Senate Bill 434. Sponsored by Senate Majority Chair and Minority Chair of the Senate Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee Senators Elder Vogel (R-Beaver) and Judy Schwank (D-Berks) respectively, this legislation makes PA-produced fluid milk more competitive nationally.”
“Specifically, it allows milk processors to request a waiver for when PA milk may be sold, using scientific testing requirements (laboratory standards, bacteriological testing, etc.) after the existing 17- day maximum. National food suppliers and wholesalers require a longer ‘sell by date’ interval. Senate Bill would have Pennsylvania join 48 other states in allowing for the longer interval and allows PA dairy producers additional markets.”
Pennsylvania State Grange urges Governor Tom Wolf to sign Senate Bill 434 into law.
