HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania corn production for grain is forecast at 148 million bushels, up 7% from 2020, according to King Whetstone, Director of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Northeastern Regional Field Office. Based on conditions as of August 1, yields are expected to average a record high 164.0 bushels per harvested acre, up 26.0 bushels from last year. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 900 thousand acres, unchanged from the June forecast, but down 10% from the previous year.
Soybean production for beans is forecast at a record high 33.4 million bushels, up 15% from 2020. Based on conditions as of August 1, yields are expected to average a record high 53.0 bushels per harvested acre, up 7 bushels from 2020. Area harvested for beans in Pennsylvania is forecast at 630 thousand acres, unchanged from the previous forecast and unchanged from 2020. <
The 2021 Pennsylvania tobacco production is forecast at 13.7 million pounds, up 2% from 2020. Area harvested, at 5,500 acres, is unchanged from last year. Yield for the 2021 crop year is forecast at 2,487 pounds per acre, 43 pounds above last year.
