UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa, — Interested in starting a vineyard and winery? Presented by Penn State University, Virginia Tech, and University of Maryland wine industry specialists, the Symposium for New and Future Grape and Wine Industry Members is being held November 15, 2021, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the University Wine Company, 540 Misty Hill Drive, State College, PA 16801.
Learn how to start on the right track and save time and money by attending this event with an agenda focusing on the issues new and future grape and wine industry members face. Participants will learn the basics and fundamentals of vineyard planning, winery development, and business and marketing.

“If you have ever seriously considered starting a vineyard and winery, or are just beginning to explore the idea, this symposium is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals that we hope will help materialize and refine your plans,” said Dr. Cain Hickey, Penn State University Viticulturist. “The symposium offers a unique opportunity to hear from university experts in viticulture, enology, business, and marketing, along with new and veteran wine industry members all in one day!”
The symposium is being held at the University Wine Company in State College, PA. Topics for the morning include vineyard business overview, capital management, winery considerations, vineyard selection, and cultivars and rootstock discussion. Lunch is provided and includes a vineyard and winery walking tour with specialists from Penn State and Virginia Tech. Afternoon topics include vineyard design, seasonal vineyard management, pest and disease control, and branding and marketing insights. The event concludes with perspectives and discussion with new and veteran wine industry members.
