CARLISLE, Pa. — Penn State Extension of Cumberland County has announced that Kayla Buker of Mechanicsburg, Pa., has been selected as the Summer Assistant for its 4-H Youth Development Program.
Buker will work with the 4-H Educator and Extension staff to provide informal educational experiences and activities for youth. She will be traveling throughout the county to assist with 4-H programming and outreach efforts to urban and rural communities.
“I am looking forward to helping current 4-H members enjoy and explore all of the wonderful opportunities that 4-H presents,” said Buker. “It is thrilling to help make Cumberland County’s best better.”
Buker is a rising senior at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, where she pursuing a Bachelors of Art in Public Policy. During the academic semesters, she has worked with the International Affairs Office to introduce new international students to the University, while serving as a conversation partner for Chatham’s English Language Program.
“We are very excited for Kayla to join the Cumberland County 4-H Department for the summer,” said Logan Hall, 4-H Youth Development Educator. “Her experience in mentoring peers and youth, as well as her background in policy, will be instrumental in our summer programming efforts.”
Administered in Pennsylvania by Penn State Extension, 4-H is a community of more than 6 million young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Penn State’s 4-H Youth Development Program is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising 4-H work throughout Pennsylvania. There is a youth development extension educator in each of the commonwealth’s 67 counties administering the local 4-H program through non-formal education and outreach.
